Transition

Here you will find the next steps we have prepared to support transition into Year 7 and Magnus. Our 2025 Transition week will be taking place from Monday 30th June-Friday 4th July. Parents and carers will receive a letter with all the information regarding transition in May.

We have created this hub to keep all the transition information in one place to help with the transition to becoming a Magnus student.

We are here to support you every step of the way so please contact us if you have any questions.

Once you have received an offer from us, we use a portal to collect all the data we need from you. You will be sent the link with a username and password but if you lose the link, you can also access it here: https://magnus.applicaa.com/year7.

Transition week will be Monday 30th June – Friday 4th July 2025.

All students will be required to bring two black pens, two pencils, a ruler, and a red pen.

Students will need to attend Magnus in their full Primary school uniform.

Once you have been allocated a place at Magnus, all you need to do is accept your place via the NCC portal and complete the Magnus welcome pack through Applica. All correspondents will then be sent through to you via Applica.

A member of the transition team will send an email offering dates for a bookable tour to families once your place at Magnus has been confirmed. If you are unable to attend any of these, please contact us to arrange an alternative time.

At Magnus, we use an online application called Classcharts to record all homework and behaviour. This is available for you to download on the App store, and you will be provided with log in details in the first week in September. We highly recommend that all parents download this as this will be the main way of communicating key messages. The app is very user friendly, and we will be happy to assist you with it in any way.

Students’ lunch accounts use a biometric fingerprint system. They can put money on their accounts using machines in school (cash) or money can be uploaded using sQuid. sQuid is our online payment system, and we urge all parents to use this as the manual machines in school can be temperamental. Log in details for sQuid will be provided during Transition week.

The September 2025 term dates will be confirmed soon.

Students will be greeted by form tutors in the main Hall. They need to arrive via to tech quad which will be well signposted with lots of staff out to direct them.

Our equipment policy states that all students are expected to bring their own Black/Blue pen, Pencil, Ruler, Red Pen.

Frequently Asked Questions – Students

On the first day in September, students will spend periods 1 and 2 with their form tutors. In this session they will be given a planner with a school map and a timetable informing them where to go for lessons.

You can ask any member of staff for directions to your lessons. Each door has a room number on it, and you will be provided with a map of the school site in your homework planner.

If you are late to school, then you need to enter through main reception. You will be asked for your name and reasons why you were late and attend the late room for the remainder of that period. Late students will receive a break time detention for that day, however if you were late for a genuine reason, such as traffic delays, there is no reason to worry about a sanction. If you are repeatedly late for an unacceptable reason, there will be further sanctions.

On your first week, teachers will be really understanding that you will not know your way around school site and therefore may arrive to lesson a little late. Once you have settled into Magnus, you will be expected to arrive to the next lesson no more than 3 minutes after the bell.

At Magnus we have an excellent Pastoral team. If you have any issues with any other students, then you should report this as soon as possible to your form tutor or your Pastoral Leader. Our Pastoral Leader for Year 7 is Mrs Mable.

Your form tutor will do lots of work during Transition and upon starting to help Year 7 get to know each other. You can also help your form tutor get to know you a little more by completing the ‘getting to know me’ form that was sent to you in March. We also have a wide range of clubs and activities that you can get involved with at break, lunch and afterschool which will help you in meeting new people and making new friends.

If you forget your dinner money, you can get a blue slip from the Pastoral office which will allow you to purchase a meal from the restaurant. You can then bring in the money to pay the office back the next day.

If you forget your PE kit, you will be expected to borrow some kit from our PE department. If you forget your equipment, you can borrow or buy some from the Pastoral office.

If you do not have the right uniform, you will be offered the opportunity to borrow some from the pastoral office.

We have an excellent first aid team who are trained to assess minor illness and administer basic medical advice. You simply must let your teacher know that you are not feeling well, and the team will be contacted.

Mobile phones are not to be used in school. We recognise that some students need phones for safety reasons when walking to and from school. We therefore ask that students turn off their mobile phone and leave them in their bags if they wish to bring one in. We are also happy to take phones in at the Pastoral office for safe keeping.

We do not recommend that sweets are brought into school and if students are caught with excessive share bags, they may be confiscated. We encourage our students to bring in healthy snacks such as fruit if they bring in a packed lunch.
