Key Stage 3

Curriculum Overview – Years 7 & 8

At Key Stage 3, students experience a wide and diverse curriculum, that effectively builds on what has been taught at Key Stage 2, and prepares students to excel at Key Stage 4.

Students, who have struggled to make the transition to secondary, or have special education needs, are supported through bespoke interventions that are tailored to the needs of each student.

All lessons are 55 minutes in length, with the exception of period 4 that is 60 minutes long.

Across the two week period, students receive 52 core curriculum lessons, six personal development lessons and two act of worships.

Enhanced Provision

In addition, to our mainstream curriculum, we have an enhanced curriculum for students, who may require a more bespoke curriculum for two terms. Students are based at Warburton House and follow the vast majority of core subjects. In addition to this, students take part in enriching project-based learning and receive tailored interventions to help students be ready to be reintegrated into mainstream lessons.

Alternative Provision

As well as our enhanced provision, based at Warburton House, we also have an alternative provision, for students where mainstream lessons are not suitable. These students continue to follow the vast majority of the core curriculum lessons, and receive tailored interventions
