Key Stage 4 (GCSE)
GCSE Design and Technology will prepare students to participate confidently and successfully in an increasingly technological world. Students will gain awareness and learn from wider influences on Design and Technology including historical, social, cultural, environmental and economic factors. Students will get the opportunity to work creatively when designing and making and apply technical and practical expertise.
It also allows students to study core technical and designing and making principles, including a broad range of design processes, materials techniques and equipment. They will also have the opportunity to study specialist technical principles in greater depth.
Key Stage 5 (A Level)
The aim of this course is to strengthen students’ critical thinking and problem-solving skills within a creative environment, enabling them to develop and make prototypes/products that solve real world problems, considering their own and others’ needs, wants, aspirations and values.
Students will be able to integrate and apply their understanding and knowledge from Key Stage 4, with a focus on mathematics and science for analysis and informing decisions in design, whilst being open to taking design risks which show innovation and enterprise.
